PUBLIC COAST EXPANDS N/A TAPLIST

In time for Dry January, Public Coast Brewing has expanded its non-alcoholic offerings with a crisp hop tea – the first brewed on the North Coast.

Lord Citra Hop Tea is a collaboration with Steven Smith Teamaker, a Portland-based company. It’s being brewed at the Cannon Beach brewery alongside its beers.

Public Coast also recently added a house-made cream soda to its N/A lineup, which includes an award-winning root beer and Citra-Drop Hop Water.

Across the globe, many people challenge themselves to go alcohol-free during January in a mass detox that has gained popularity in recent years. The period of sobriety, however, is also the leanest month of the year for craft breweries.

Public Coast head brewer Will Leroux said it makes sense to “embrace” Dry January with zero-proof options rather than try to resist the health-minded trend.

Stephen’s Root Beer has become the brewery’s second-most popular beverage, behind Coastal Haze Hazy IPA, Leroux said.

The new hop tea blends Smith Teamaker’s Lord Bergamot (an Earl Grey black tea) with aromatic citra hops, cane sugar and a sprinkling of lemon juice. The beverage is carbonated for crispness.

It’s available on tap at the Public Coast brewpub and in 16-ounce four-packs.
