Fort George is Astoria’s biggest craft brewery and one of the largest in the Pacific Northwest.
Founded on the site of the original Astoria settlement in 2007, Fort George quickly outgrew its eight-barrel brewing system. A series of expansions followed.
Today, the downtown Lovell Taproom offers seating beside the brewing tanks. In another historic building next door, the brewery operates a brewpub and restaurant known for its wood-fired pizzas.
The main brewing operation is housed in a giant former warehouse between Marine Drive and the Columbia River. In 2022, Fort George added to its footprint by opening the Beer Pier behind the waterfront facility. Generally open during warm-weather months, it boasts seating and space for bands to play.
Fort George produces a wide range of beers, from classic pilsners like The Meadow to its celebrated Vortex IPA and Cavatica stout. In 2022, the brewery released more than 50 new beers, some of them wildly inventive.
The brewery hosts two major festivals: IPA-loving Lupulin Ecstasy in June; and the Festival of Dark Arts during Stout Month, aka February. There is also free live music in the taproom on Sunday evenings.
