Buoy Beer Co.

Founded in 2013, Buoy has enjoyed steady growth. Its annual production is second only to Fort George at more than 20,000 barrels a year.

The Astoria brewery had a major setback in June 2022, however, when part of its historic waterfront building collapsed when pilings failed. No one was injured, but the accident shuttered  Buoy’s popular river-view brewpub, as well as the adjoining taproom, small-batch brewing system and canning line.

Buoy rebounded quickly, leasing space in the downtown Astoria Food Hub building for a taproom and kitchen. That arrangement is expected to continue while the brewery rebuilds on the waterfront, although no final decisions have been made.

Buoy holds two beer festivals: the Lager Festival in May; and Oktoberfest in September, honoring German-style brews. There is free live music at the taproom on Friday nights.

While known for its IPAs, lagers and Czech-style pilsner, Buoy offers beers for all tastes. Brewers take pride in their limited-release, barrel-aged offerings: The Decapitator doppelbock and Love Lost at Sea barley wine.
