PUBLIC COAST INTRODUCES ANOTHER SEDUCTIVE BLONDE

Public Coast Brewing has created a worthy sibling for its award-winning prodigy, ’67 Blonde Ale.

Introducing ’67 Blonde Lager, a crisp, golden brew that comes along as a light alternative to the traditional avalanche of heavy stouts that dominates the month of February.

Blonde Ale was one of head brewer Will Leroux’s first creations and it became an immediate success, fetching a gold medal at the World Beer Cup in 2018. Today, the ale remains a top seller for the Cannon Beach brewery, founded in 2016.

In case you didn’t know, the names of the beers (and brewery) pay tribute to the year Oregon lawmakers declared that the state’s entire 363-mile coastline would be open to the public forever.

The new brew’s recipe includes German lager yeast, Pilsner malt, rice flakes and Lemondrop hops. It’s refreshing, with subtle toast and citrus notes. The ABV is 5.0%, just like its cousin.

Public Coast is adding Blonde Lager to its roster of year-round beers, which include Blonde Ale, Coastal Haze IPA, Oswald IPA, Coconut Brown Ale and NW Honey Red Ale.

“These flagship offerings showcase our best in terms of taste, quality and consistency,” Leroux said in a statement.

The new beer is available on tap at the Public Coast brewpub and in 16-ounce cans.

CHOOSING THOSE CREATIVE BEER NAMES

Those crazy names.

Dave Coyne’s phone is filled with them. Creative, catchy and often off the wall, the list of potential beer names scrolls on and on.

“I have a very long notes section on my phone. It just keeps going and going and going,” Coyne says, demonstrating with a swipe of his index finger. “They’re not all good, but …”

CALLING ALL PINBALL WIZARDS!

The folks at Fort George Brewery have a gift for Astorians (and visitors) that will last the entire month of February. They’re stuffing truckloads of video game and pinball machines into the Lovell Showroom off Duane Street, turning the lecture spot into an instant arcade.

The best part: It’s all free. No tokens or coins necessary.
